A great boom reverberated in the room, unmistakably the retort of a Shotgun. All four members of the team woke immediately. “Do these idiots have any idea what God dammed time it is,” Ian asked aloud as he peaked through his curtains. JP muttered several choice words in French as he rapidly donned his armor, which quickly unsheathed itself. Using him as cover Ian quickly followed suit and the two Police Officers slipped out of their room, weapons at the ready. Their displays set to night vision they searched the area in a slight haze of light green, searching for the source of the gunshot. The Parking Lot was clear, and there was no sign of any trouble. “Any sign of anything,” Ian asked. His external speakers off he could talk as loud as he wished without anyone outside hearing. “My audio feed is picking up several loud voices on the other side of the building, I believe the front office is there, a likely target.” “Good call, lets go, I’ll take point.” “Yes sir.” “Any sign of Hiromi or Amber?” “If they are they are maintaining radio silence, no sign of their IFF either.” “Shit,” Ian said. “Knowing Hiromi he didn’t bother putting on his armor. And I can see Amber following suite.” “That sounds rather foolish, and as such is likely true.” “That kid’s notorious for it. We need to hurry.” ___ “We couldn’t have taken two seconds to get our armor on,” Amber hissed aggravated. “That armor’s bright red and noisy as Hell,” Hiromi whispered back, “The last thing we need to do is spook whoever it is with the weapon.” “On the flip side without the armor on they could just, ya know, shoot us.” “Then I suggest we stay nice and quiet like…” Despite their words they were in face wearing the armor, simply keeping it retracted. Hiromi had figured the front office the likeliest target from the get go, and their room was closer, so they were already pulling up on it. Through the glass front of the office the scene was fairly straight forward, employees bound and gagged on the floor, a hole on the door which was obviously the work of the shotgun. There was no sign of the perps however, though a door in the back was ajar, likely were the safe was. “So what now, “Alice hissed, “charge in waving sidearms around naked?” “Tempting, let’s suit up and wait for the other two.” “Glad to see your brain working again.” The quips were cut short by the sound of a shotgun pump racking. “Well well,” an unfamiliar voice said from behind them, “looks like we caught ourselves two mice Hiromi and Alice looked at each other, Hiromi shaking his head slightly, Alice gave a faint nod, unsheathing their armor would have to wait, the split second it’d take was potentially fatal, they’d wait for the right moment. Raising their hands they slowly turned around, there were three large looking men, one with the shotgun, the others unarmed. One carried a duffle bag, likely filled with whatever money they’d just appropriated. ”Only one weapon,” he thought, “decent odds, just need an opening…” Alice was thinking the same thing, and she was closer. “Mouse huh,” she said in sarcastic voice, “big talk for a roach.” “Talking shut are ya, little bit… argh!” His sentence was cut off, as in the split second it took to re aim the weapon at her she’s delivered a lightning fast snap kick to the end of the barrel, knocking it in the air. He managed to hold on with his second hand, and brought it back down as quickly as he could manage. He wasn’t even close to fast enough. The Red Armor sprang into existence, and the three would be thieves found themselves starring down two Mobile Armors. “Nic e work,” Hiromi said over his internal channel. “Seems like I’m always bailing you out of this kind of shit…” she muttered back. Hiromi smirked and switched to external comms. “Police, drop the weapon, get your ass on the ground, and you know the rest.” He said this while displaying the holo badge on the left side of his chest. “Shit…” The lead thief acting faster than his brain could stop fired off a shot square into Hiromi’s chest. The weapon was laughably ineffective, not even marring the paint. Amber stepped forward, and in a flash grabbed the barrel of the weapon. “I suggest you stop resisting,” she said coldly, the servos in her gauntlet making a slight noise as the metal fingers crushed the barrel of the weapon like it were plastic. To further emphasize the point Hiromi leveled his oversized Beam Rifle, focusing on the thief’s chest. His two companions were sensible, and threw themselves on the ground. The final one seemed intent on being difficult, so Hiromi simply grabbed his shirt collar and threw him off his feet. “Nicely handled,” JP’s voice sounded over their comm. “Oh now you two show up,” Amber snorted as JP and Ian walked over, “just wake up or something?” Ian laughed, “Nope, saw you two were handling things, decided to check on the two civilians back in the office, no real damage to them.” Hiromi raised an eyebrow. “You saw us being held at gunpoint and thought we were handling things…” “I had faith in you two.” “Wonderful, thanks.” Ah don’t be mad, lets restrain these three, I’ll stay up and guard them till the local cops show up, you three go get some sleep.” “You don’t have to do that boss,” JP interjected, “I’m fine, I’ll handle them.” “Okay,” Ian agreed easily. Amber smacked him across the back of his head “Stupid! You’re not supposed to agree with him!” “Oh come on,” Ian said, “was that really necessary?” JP laughed loudly. “Calm down Amber, I’m used to all nighters, I just need a little coffee. Assuming I can find some that qualifies for it in this silly country…” “I can’t believe we got caught by these nutjobs,” one of the thieves muttered from the ground… ___ The rest of the night passed without incident. The Motel owners attempted to refuse Ian’s money, saying they’d earned their night’s sleep. Ian of course refused, if he had one soft spot it was for the civilians he served. Several hours later they were on the road again, headed for Washington again. Ian stayed surprisingly quiet during the journey as Hiromi, Amber, and JP went through the normal routine of bickering, joking, and laughing. The reports coming in were somber, he hadn’t told them the full reason they’d made an emergency transfer to Washington. They’d know soon enough… |
